Best Struts for the money Apr 30, 2011
By G. Kohler I'm fully satisfied my my dicision to buy Monroe Sensa Trac struts. They are a monotube design. All the others like KYB brag about a "Twin" or "Dual" tube design like it's some great new technology. All they do is weld a small tube inside the large outer housing so they can use a smaller "cheaper" piston in the strut. A monotube designed strut is the way to go. Before changing my struts my Maxima was getting pretty scary on corners and bumps. I changed all 4 with Sensa Tracs and I can't believe the difference in handling! I also installed KYB upper mount kits and boots/bump stops all the way around too. While I had it apart I changed the ball joints, tie rod ends and sway bar links with all MOOG components with ZERK fittings. Finally I installed Energy Suspension lower control arm and sway bar bushings. My Maxima handles quite well after that. 100MPH feels like 50. There was a slight issue with Amazon sending mismatched struts but Amazon straightened it out fast. They even over nighted the replacement free of charge. They were the proper struts for the car but one was made in the USA and the other was made in Belgium. The one made in Belgium looked cheaper and had a plastic retainer. I'm sure it would have worked fine but after spending that kind of money I did not want it to look off with different looking struts. Make sure you only accept Made in the USA Monroes. As always, fully satisfied with Amazon. They had the best price to the door hands down! Thanks again, George
