Timken bearing hub assembly for my 2004 Nissan Quest Feb 27, 2011
By Peter Wong
"Rev2Hard"
Ordered this Timken bearing and hub assembly for my 2004 Nissan Quest. This was for my front passenger side. 3 months ago I got a local shop to replace the driver's side that was making noise, and he used Nissan part which cost $190. The job cost me $400 total. With the passenger side going bad this time, I did some research and found that it's not that difficult to do yourself.
So I ordered this part from Amazon and it got delivered in 3 days. Just in time for me to get the job done on a Saturday. So thumbs up to this seller. This bearing is of excellent quality and it's made in USA.
For this job, you should use an air impact wrench, and a 6 point 32mm impact socket for the axle nut. There are 4 (17mm) bolts holding the hub assembly. For these, use a 3/8" socket set and an extension. Don't forget to remove the ABS sensor before pulling the hub out. This part is very expensive so you don't want to break it.
To make this job go much easier, go to Auto Zone and pick up a bottle of CRC Freeze Out. This stuff will magically loosen all the rust on parts and get the bolts out 10X easier.
When you put everything back together, you should use a torque wrench to make sure everything is torque to spec.
If you working on the 04-09 Nissan Quest, here is the torque spec: Axle nut 32mm: 92 ft-lbs Rear hub assembly bolt 17mm: 44 ft-lbs Caliper bracket holding the rotor 22mm: 115 ft-lbs ABS sensor bolt 10mm: 15 ft-lbs
By the way, both front bearing on this Nissan went bad at around 72000 miles. I am not sure if this is normal but hopefully I won't have to replace them again anytime soon.

Timken, is a well known name in the bearing industry. If i replace bearings in my auto, I would choose timken over anyone. I can never remember replacing a timken bearing after i installed it. So it is worth it weight in gold.....

Excellent product at a reasonable price Nov 27, 2009
By S. Wildman Perfect replacement. Once the speed sensor is easily removed, you don't even need to remove the balljoint or the axle with this part. Simply use the loan-a-tool at A'zone or similar, get an axle flange puller & FWD axle removal tool to press the axle loose from the hub assembly and other than the tools needed to raise the vehicle, remove the wheel, rotor, caliper mount, and axle nut-you're done. About 1 hour total time with impact wrench. Saves several hundred dollars each.
Hang the Caliper to prevent damage to the hose. Protect the speed sensor from damage, it cost more than the bearing you are putting in.
Have fun, I did both in a couple hours at my leisure. I fig. I saved nearly 1000.00 in Nissan costs.

Good bearing Nov 28, 2009
By Derek B. Cobb I'm very happy with this bearing hub assembly. Installation was relatively simple and the Murano is nice and quiet once again, and I saved about $600 installing it myself. If the other side starts howling, I'll definately order another one.
A High Quality Replacement Jan 04, 2012
By Dr. Kyle S. This hub assembly looks identical to the manufacturer's original hub, and Timken appears to have a pretty good reputation for building quality replacement bearings. Installation is much easier if you live in a warm climate area, as I didn't have the corrosion problems some may face. Spray plenty of penetrating oil, and let it sit for a while, and your life will be much easier. Don't forget to to remove the ABS sensor prior to attempting to pound/pull the old hub assembly. Also, when reassembling, don't be a goofus like me and make certain the mud shield is mounted (and flaring AWAY from the plane of the rotor) prior to inserting the new hub into the control arm.
