Good as new! Aug 23, 2010
By G. Forster The part was ordered to replace the low-pressure, in-the-tank pump on my Alfa Romeo Spider. The pump came as a "universal fit" unit, which included several clamps and hose fittings, which would appear to fit several applications.
The pump appears to be nearly identical to the Bosch unit that I removed. The nuts for the electrical fittings were 1/4", rather than the 6mm on the old pump, other than that, the dimensions were identical.
I had to reuse the rubber connector between the pump outlet and the pipe to the fuel hose. The original short hose is a reducing piece, with a larger opening on the pipe side, whereas the hose included in the kit had too small of an I.D. to fit well onto the fuel pipe.
So far, it's working great, and was a great value at $41 when compared to $80+ at my local parts stores.
A "new" used fuel pump Jan 17, 2012
By Kevin C I ordered this for a Volvo 240 (in tank transfer pump)1/5/12. It arrived promptly. I took it out of the box and noticed the plastic casing seemed a bit rough. On a Sunday afternoon I took out the old one, then took a close look at the "new" pump Amazon sold me. Somebody had actually filed away on the side of the output tube, penetrating it at two points. This meant that some of the gas would leak out the side of the tube and not go on to the rubber connector. There were also dirty fingerprints on the pump and somebody had obviously test fit a hose on the output (up) tube.
I tried to find another (new!) one to put in on a Sunday afternoon. No such luck and the car was already taken apart. I tried to compensate for the damage by stuffing the accordion rubber connection tube down further over the output tube, hopefully enough to block the slits that had been cut by a file in the base of the tube. I tested it on the bench and it ran OK, so I installed it in the tank. It does work, it is reasonably quiet, and one day in, it is working. It fit the fuel sender well and wasn't too long assembled for the tank, which has been a problem with some after market pumps.
The moral of the story is check the part when you first get it, not when you need it. I can't think of any reason somebody would damage one like this, then return it. Don't expect that anybody on the selling end is check returns very carefully.
Seems to work great in 1985 Alfa Spider Jul 13, 2011
By Ranger Like the earlier reviewer (and somewhat based on his review) I dropped this into an Alfa Spider. It appeared to be all but identical to the unit I replaced and was an easy swap.
